The historical Gaston Park in Cagayan de Oro. Named after Segundo Gaston, then mayor of the Municipal of Cagayan de Misamis, this landmark has seen centuries of colorful events that lead to establishment of a progressive town and now a highly urbanized city on this side of the island.
Cagayan de Oro City celebrates her 67th Charter Day today, June 15, 2017. 67 years ago, President Elpidio Quirino signed Republic Act No. 521 granting the status of Chartered City to the Municipality of Cagayan de Misamis. The name “Misamis” was replaced with “Oro” as gold were said to be an abundance in its river and tributaries.
